Connecting a guardian to the diary

The teacher shares a link or QR; the guardian taps it and is connected — class messages then reach their phone.

The screenshots show the app in Bangla, its main language. The buttons sit in the same places in English.

Teacher: first make sure the student record has the guardian's number — শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রোফাইল → এডিট → "পিতা/অভিভাবকের নাম্বার". Without it, anyone who opens the link connects.

This one step is what makes the link safe. With the number saved, the link works only for that number — forwarding it to anyone else does nothing. Without it, whoever opens the link connects to that student.
Teacher: open the class and tap "ডিজিটাল ডায়েরি" (Digital Diary).
Teacher: tap the add-guardian button, choose "একজন শিক্ষার্থীর কিউআর/লিংক" (older builds: "লিংক শেয়ার করুন"), then pick which student's guardian it is for.

Green text with a tick under the QR means the link is bound to that guardian's number — safe. Red text means that student has no number saved, so anyone could use the link; add the number first. The link is the easiest path — just send it on WhatsApp. A QR also works, but the guardian needs a second phone; you cannot scan a QR on the phone showing it.
Teacher: choose WhatsApp or imo and send the link to the guardian.
Guardian: tap the link in WhatsApp. Hazira Khata opens.
Guardian: sign in with your phone number — it must be the number the school has on record.

Signing in with a different number will not connect. If you are unsure which number the school has, ask the teacher.
Guardian: the request card appears on the home screen itself, showing the child's name, the class and the teacher. Check it, then tap "প্রতিষ্ঠানের সাথে যুক্ত হোন" (Connect). If it looks wrong, tap "বাতিল করুন" (Cancel).
If you had already added a child yourself, the app asks once: "এটি আপনার কোন সন্তান?" (Which of your children is this?) — match it to that child, or add it as a new one. If you had added nothing, this question does not appear.
Guardian: once connected, the child's card sits under "আমার সন্তান" (My Child). Tapping it opens the messages the teacher sends.

After connecting, the guardian sees the teacher's messages. The school's attendance register and exam marks do not yet appear in the parent's app — that part is still being built.

Common questions

Why does the guardian only get notifications after opening the app?

That was a real problem and it has been fixed. The message used to sit on the phone until the app was opened; now the phone itself shows it, with the app closed. Guardians do not need to update the app — it works with the version already installed. If one phone still gets nothing, check Settings → Apps → Hazira Khata → Battery and set it to Unrestricted, and make sure notification permission is on.

Why does the same message arrive twice?

For now that can happen — once when the message arrives, once when the guardian opens the app. Nothing is being sent twice and nothing is wrong. The older app does not know the phone has already shown it, so it shows it again. This goes away on the next update.

Is internet needed?

The teacher needs internet to create the link, and the guardian needs it to connect. The teacher does not have to be online at the moment the guardian taps it.

How long does the link work?

7 days. If the guardian has not tapped it by then, the teacher simply shares a new one. Making a new link also switches OFF every earlier link for that student immediately — so if a link went to the wrong place, generating a fresh one kills the old one. || One thing worth knowing. Before version 3.2.251, simply RE-OPENING the share screen made a new link by itself, which switched off the one you had already sent. No button press was involved — looking was enough, so a guardian would tap the link, find it dead, and you had no way to know why. From 3.2.251 that no longer happens: open the screen as often as you like and the link stays the same. To get a new one you press "নতুন লিংক বানান" (Make a new link) yourself.

Tapping the link opens a browser instead of the app.

If the app is already installed it usually opens the app. If a browser opens, install the app from the Play Store and tap the link again.

The guardian taps the link and sees "this link was made for another student's guardian".

That is deliberate, not a fault. The link only works for the number saved on that student's record. Either (1) the guardian signed in with a different number, or (2) the number on the student record is wrong or out of date. The teacher fixes it in শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রোফাইল → এডিট → "পিতা/অভিভাবকের নাম্বার" — or puts the mother's number in the "মাতা/২য় অভিভাবক" field — then sends a fresh link.

Both the mother and the father want to connect.

Put both numbers on the student record — one in "পিতা/অভিভাবকের নাম্বার", the other in "মাতা/২য় অভিভাবকের নাম্বার". The same link then works for both. Anyone whose number is not on the record cannot connect.

It connected to the wrong child.

The guardian cannot remove this themselves — the teacher has to. The teacher opens the class's "ডিজিটাল ডায়েরি", finds that row under "সংযুক্ত অভিভাবকগণ" and taps the red ✕, then sends the link for the right student. Until the teacher does that, the card stays on the guardian's phone.

I tapped "সংযোগ সরান" but the "এটি আপনার কোন সন্তান?" card keeps coming back.

That is a current limitation, not your mistake. "সংযোগ সরান" only detaches the connection from the child stored on your own phone; the teacher's connection still exists on the server, so the card reappears. Deleting the child does the same thing. To remove it for good, ask the teacher to tap the red ✕ on that row in their diary. A proper fix is being worked on.
